We’ve had a few cases of lice over the past few weeks. Unfortunately, this is a fairly regular occurrence during childhood. Prevention is the best deterrent – regular checks at home and ensuring long hair is tied back in ponytails or braids are simple steps that will help prevent the spread of lice.
Lice checks for the PYP students have and will be carried out on a regular and as needed basis when we discover cases of lice. This year, these checks have and will be done by the H-IS professional nursing team: Paola Panazzolo, Daniele Scomparin, Fabio Domenichini and Angela Scarpa.
We provide this service as a preventative measure to stop further spread of lice among our students. When we discover lice, it is essential to check all students as quickly as possible at the same time. This year, because of these checks, we have had many fewer individual cases and class outbreaks of lice because we have trained professionals on staff who are able to address the situation immediately.
Regular lice checks are a normal procedure in schools and we’re happy to be able to offer this service because it provides another layer of support for our students and our families.
We will soon share the date of a Parent Workshop about “Lice prevention and proper treatment” we are arranging with our nursing team.
