We are happy to share with you a testimonial from our DP 2 students – Alice Campagnaro, Anna Dal Ben, Marco Donazzan, Emelie Piovesana and Matilde Sandon – who participated in the Prague Model United Nations (MUN) Conference between 17th and 20th November 2022.
In this experience at MUN in Prague, we were able to improve our debating, listening, and communicating skills. We stayed a weekend (Thursday-Sunday) at Open Gate School, where we were introduced to the MUN. Each of us represented different countries, such as Serbia, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Ethiopia, in different committees. The first two days were exhausting and very scary since students participating were up to 21 years old and experts in this type of debating, while most of us were first-timers. Following what we learnt during those two days prepared us to debate on Saturday. On Sunday, we had the amazing opportunity to go to Prague’s city hall and participate in the general assembly and closing ceremony. In the evening we stayed in Prague to visit the astrological clock, took a scary night tour and went to the Nikola Tesla Museum. On Monday, we got ready to leave and we participated in an escape room (The Alchemist). It was extremely interesting to visit such a marvellous city, and considering the debating at MUN we learnt so many things in regard to how the UN works. It is a common feeling that we are ready to participate in another conference as soon as possible.
Our school acknowledges and applauds Marco Donazzan’s engagement with MUN Prague: Marco was awarded the “Honourable Mention of the Economic and Social Committee” for his valuable contribution to his breakout group.
* The Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational event for high-school students from all over the world. The concept simulates a UN conference during which students (delegates of UN countries) separate into various committees and discuss today’s greatest issues. Delegates are supposed to come up with a solution suitable for the majority of countries represented at the conference.
