Dear Parents and Students,
Learning something means that we are effectively storing knowledge and competences in our long term memory. Short term recall can hardly count as learning, but if you are able to do something weeks, months and years later then you can truly say you have learned it.
We know students need a reason to recall what they have learned and that they find these reasons in classroom discussions and other informal assessments as well as formal assessments. If we want to solidify the learning this year before moving to the coming year, we benefit most when we give students one more opportunity, at the end of the year, to recall what they have learnt and apply it to new situations.
For this reason, during the month of June, every subject across the MYP will have some sort of assessment of learning. This will range from project work, to performances, to more traditional exams. A tentative schedule is below:
MYP1 & MYP2: Wed., 7 June 2023 – Tues., 13 June 2023
MYP3: Wed., 14 June 2023 – Tues., 20 June 2023
MYP4: Wed., 7 June 2023 – Tues., 13 June 2023
MYP5: Wed., 14 June 2023 – Tues., 20 June 2023
Every teacher will provide a revision checklist for students between next week and the return from the Easter holiday.
We are working with all the teachers to make sure that all assessments are fair and that students know, as soon as possible, the format and content of these assessments. Although the grades which the students will receive on the exams will have little impact on their future, the assessments will play an impactful role in teaching students how to learn.
Thank you for all your support and please contact us with any questions or concerns.
