Dear Parents and Students,
First of all, a big thank you to the PYP3 teachers for giving us this opportunity! MYP3 and Mrs Carrasco (MYP Spanish Language acquisition teacher) are thrilled to share a special learning experience that will bring together our MYP3 and PYP3 students.
The goal of this collaboration is for MYP3 students to help PYP3 students learn Spanish vocabulary related to food through interactive activities, including flashcards, audio recordings, and Quizizz exercises. Later, the PYP3 students will put their learning into practice by following Spanish instructions to reproduce a simple recipe.
MYP3 students will be evaluated (Summative Criterion C) based on how well their PYP3 partners understand their instructions and vocabulary in Spanish. Each PYP3 student will be assigned an MYP3 mentor, who will guide them in learning food-related Spanish vocabulary. Mentors will communicate with their PYP3 partners via email, sharing audios, videos, and quizzes to monitor their progress.
The final event will feature two exciting challenges:
- Taste & Identify Challenge: PYP3 students, blindfolded, will taste different foods and try to name the ingredients in Spanish. (Rest assured, MYP3 students will be informed about allergies and dietary restrictions.)
- Cooking Challenge: PYP3 students will prepare a simple dish by following Spanish instructions from their MYP3 mentors.
This will be a fun and educational experience for both groups, as our current unit focuses on food and cooking.
In the coming weeks, we will share more details about the ingredients and materials students will need to bring to school.
We are really looking forward to this meaningful and engaging learning experience. Thank you again for your support. We will keep you updated as we move forward!
