Dear Parents,
I hope you and your families had a restorative holiday and are all ready for the final 6 weeks of school leading up to the Christmas holidays.
On Monday teachers learned from experts about teaching literacy and about assessment. It was refreshing to witness teachers’ enthusiastic commitment to lifelong learning.
This week, students in the MYP are furthering another goal of our mission as they explore creative possibilities for innovative learning as school ambassadors to Future Port in Prague (https://futureportyouth.com/). Future Port Youth’s slogan: “empowering students for a brighter future” is very much aligned with our mission and we are excited for all the connections that such conferences will allow.
This trip is part of our AI strategy and it builds on the experiential knowledge students gain as they prepare for and attend other trips such as Robomed in the PYP, the H-Farm Hackathon in October, the M1-M3 Robotics competition (to be announced in the coming weeks) and our upcoming “Creativity and AI” competition. There is so much going on. Thank you to the many teachers, parents and students who are so generous in supporting these innovative initiatives.
Please consider signing up for the Creativity and Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp which will take place on Campus during the weekend of December 2nd and 3rd is open to MYP 4 – DP 2 students. If you have students enrolled in these year groups you can sign them up from today.
Lastly, I want to thank the PTA and the students who have taken part in fundraising activities. True to our identity as members of an international community, our students have raised thousands of Euros which will be donated to Red Cross / Red Crescent and Unicef. The PTA will be raising money for a local charity (proof that we may think globally, but we are also acting locally!) through our most important community event: the Winter Fair. Please save the date so that you can join us from 15h15 on December 15th!
I realise that this letter is getting a little long now so I will save some exciting news on the continued academic progress we are making for my next long message in a few week’s time!
Until then, I hope your children continue to feel engaged in their learning and that you know you can count on all of us here at H-IS to help discuss any questions you might have about how to support your child / children’s learning.
Warm regards,
Conan de Wilde
