Dear Families,
I wanted to thank you all for the tremendous success of the PYP workshops on mathematics and the subject choice fairs which have happened over the past week in the Secondary School. Thank you, also, to those parents and teachers who were able to join us today in celebrating the monumental achievement of our M1s – who presented their models of ecosystems all across the world today. In Boarding we are hosting over 30 students from The Avenues Schools in New York, Sao Paulo and Shenzhen this week which has led to all kinds of exciting interactions. Our DP2 students continue to work very hard on the mock IB exams and we wish them the best of luck for their remaining exams.
While we are celebrating, I would like to congratulate three of our colleagues who have won grants to pursue the integration of AI in the classroom.
Federica Cazzaro will develop “Personalized Learning: Harnessing the Power of AI for Language Support.”
Sara Bonaventura is piloting an interdisciplinary project between visual arts and ecology entitled “AI – Botany and the Visual Arts at H-FARM.”
Maddalena Mometti is using AI with her students to explore its multiple uses in the design and fashion industries.
All three are very exciting projects which promise to challenge students and further our collective expertise when it comes to using AI to leverage better learning.
Lastly, we have had a number of interesting discussions around conflict in the world today and international relations – discussions which I hope will promote greater open-mindedness and sensitivity in our interactions. My plea is that you, as parents, set aside a few minutes every day to discuss current events with your children and that you do so in such a way as to stimulate curiosity around different points of view. Where these conversations are already happening they are proving to be a wonderful springboard to support classroom discussions. As always, thank you for your support.
Warm regards,
Conan de Wilde
