In the early days of the Iranian protest movement, a young singer called Shervin Hajipour released a song called “Baraye” (in English: ‘For the Sake of’ or ‘Because of’) that was inspired by the death of Mahsa Amini and its aftermath. Ever since, this song has become an anthem for women, freedom and an ordinary life, has gone extremely viral, has been performed in concerts of most famous American and European singers and has been nominated for Grammy Awards 2023.
Students performed an English version of the song sung by another Iranian artist Rana Mansour, which allowed them to explore several aspects pertaining to their IB Learner Profile: it’s a show of their international-mindedness before and above anything else, presenting them as Thinker and Caring among other attributes.
Teachers involved: Ms. Golbarg (English teacher); Ms. Romano (Music Teacher)
