The PYP Student Council has decided to continue with our annual participation in Global School Play Day on February 7th. This will be the fourth year we celebrate Global School Play Day in the PYP section of our school. This year, in addition to having a full day of unstructured play at school, all of our students are encouraged to come to school in CRAZY clothes. We hope their playful imaginations will run wild with this challenge!!
Global School Play Day is an initiative that champions the significance of unstructured play in children’s lives, aligning with a wealth of educational research emphasizing its crucial role in holistic development. Grounded in studies that reveal the cognitive, social, and emotional benefits of play, this day encourages schools worldwide to provide children with uninterrupted time for imaginative and self-directed play. Research underscores how play fosters creativity, problem-solving skills, and emotional regulation, laying the foundation for academic success. Unstructured play promotes social skills, collaboration, and resilience.
Global School Play Day serves as a powerful reminder to educators and parents alike that unstructured play is not just an enjoyable pastime but an essential component in nurturing well-rounded, adaptable, and socially competent individuals, echoing the evidence-backed understanding that play is a fundamental and integral aspect of a child’s learning journey.
