Dear families,
I hope this message finds you well. Last week, one of you was kind enough to encourage me to write an email to outline the benefits of an IB education.
Thank you to all of you for choosing an IB education at H-FARM. I hope this email will reassure you that you have made the right choice.
Firstly, the IB has some of the highest academic standards, and it achieves this through developing competencies such as:
- Asking Good Questions: Fostering curiosity for deeper understanding.
- Thinking Critically: Developing analytical skills for informed decision-making.
- Making Connections: Encouraging interdisciplinary thinking.
- Researching well: Nurturing effective research capabilities.
Each programme is developmentally appropriate.
In PYP, concept-based learning allows teachers to value holistic development and prioritise student wellbeing. It also enhances comprehensive understanding through transdisciplinary connections.
The MYP builds on the academic rigour of the PYP and ensures that students have an increased likelihood of enrolling in challenging courses after the MYP (one study from the University of Melbourne found students with the MYP were 34% more likely to seek further studies, which were rated as challenging). Students also report much higher levels of international-mindedness and awareness than their peers who don’t follow the MYP.
In DP, university admissions departments from around the world have reported higher critical thinking skills in DP graduates, and IB graduates have much higher rates of acceptance into competitive universities. One study found that students were three times more likely to enrol at a top 20 university in the UK with an IB education than those who didn’t have one.**
