What’s worth learning? What does learning look, sound, and feel like at H-FARM International School? PYP parents explored these questions through interactive learning experiences as well as classroom observations during our recent Introduction to the PYP workshop for parents. Together we considered the “human” element at the heart of the H-FARM philosophy, which is an ideal match to the IB programs our school offers.
Participating parents inquired into the following PYP program elements:
- The IB Learner Profile (DISPOSITIONS): How do we want our students to be?
- KNOWLEDGE: What do we want students to learn?
- CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING: What do we want our students to understand?
- SKILLS: What do we want our students to be able to do?
- ACTION: How do we want our students to act?
Stimulating discussions took place after parents saw learning in action in all PYP learning spaces. The parents commented on many things they saw happening including collaboration among students and students/teachers, the high degree of responsibility they saw students taking, as well as the safe, relaxed and comfortable feeling around the school. They also commented on the diverse and interesting teaching strategies they saw happening. This was a community education event that is the first in a series of PYP parent education workshops to help deepen our collective understanding of how and what our students are learning each day.
Please find a summary of the concepts explored via this link. We can’t wait to see you again for the next workshop scheduled on Tuesday, October 22nd “Supporting Your Early Reader (for EYU, Year 1, Year 2 families).
We remind you that the full list of PYP Parent Education sessions is always available here or on the events calendar.
