Summer is about relaxation and play. That said, the summer is a good opportunity for students to continue to exercise their brains on a regular basis throughout the summer – not just a couple of days before we return to school. Below we have added suggestions for daily practice in a range of areas.

All students should read or be read to every day throughout the summer. Visit the library or purchase books for your child so they can continue exercising this important life skill. We chose Casa Editrice Il Castoro which offers a selection of books divided by year level for students during the summer. We invite all the students to choose at least two titles among those indicated by Il Castoro.

For current Y5 students who will be joining MYP next year, we also suggest a list of books that are suitable for future MYP1 students at this link.

We also strongly recommend that students write every day – this could be a lined journal/diary where they recount what they’ve done each day or a lined Writer’s Notebook where they can stretch their imagination and write original stories. Your child can choose what they write about as long as they continue to write each day.

Summer is also an excellent time to practice and commit to memorizing basic math facts – addition and subtraction to 20, multiplication to 12X12 and division up to 144/12 = 12. Further math challenges can be found at this link.
