Student Council – Global School Play Day – 1 February 1050 688 School Office PYP

The PYP Student Council has unanimously decided that the PYP section will again join 1 million students from 75 countries around the world by participating in Global School Play Day on February 1, 2023 (Wednesday). We will celebrate this day across the PYP section by offering our students an entire day of unstructured play, which is essential to each child’s social, emotional and academic development.

The Hampshire Play Policy Forum said “Play is an essential part of every child’s life and vital to its development. It is the way children explore the world around them and develop practice skills. It is essential for physical, emotional and spiritual growth, for intellectual and educational development, and for acquiring social and behavioral skills. Play is a generic term applied to a wide range of activities and behaviors that are satisfying to the child, creative for the child and freely chosen by the child.” To understand the importance of play even further please read this research: The Critical Place of Play in Education.

The Student Council has decided this will be a non-uniform day so students can choose to wear what they want to school that day (Note: no costumes and no make up!). Each class will have discussions about the type of playing they will do in their class and any games they may bring from home.
